Hey everyone. Any reason we can't run Shielded 18/2 FPLP in slab for a parking structure if it doesn't leave the building? Or in other words do you have to pull direct burial or wet location specific wire for in slab(smurf) conduit? I have always pulled the regular indoor 18/2 knowing that if it left the building like out to a pull box or man hole of some kind then you need outdoor rated cable. Any kind of documentation, code reference or anything like that would be most appreciated(for or against)! Have a great day!

Above or below grade slab?

Typically the top slab surface is considered grade where aggregate and/or earth is directly below the slab.

Its below the slab but encased in concrete.
Is below the slab "earth"?

Doesn't matter if encased in concrete. Anything below slab top surface is considered* a wet location. All conductors no matter what wiring method must be rated for wet location.

*See Article 100 definition "Locations, Wet." While it says in concrete in direct contact with earth, it is typically interpreted as such even where there is premium grade aggregate and/or vapor barrier.

Then go to 300.5(B) & (C).

From there we go to 760.3(D)... and there's your answer.
