    When powering a door holder with 24v power from fire alarm system do you need a control module?

    Mostly, yes. Or you can hook it up through a relay on the motherboard. I don't like putting things on the motherboard in case something ugly happens to the field conductors.

    The other way to do it is to hook it up to the aux power supply on a notification appliance circuit booster panel. These can usually be dip-switch programmed to drop out if the panel receives a signal to activate the notification appliances.

    So they can be powered via 24v not 120v?

    Frequently they come with all three flavors: 24VDV, 24VAC, and 120VAC.
