Using EGC as GEC for SDS

So Can I have a single conductor serve both purposes, if it meets the installation requirements for both? I know this has come up before. It seems the general consensus was there is nothing that prohibits this, however these were all old threads I found and there was mention that there would be language in 2011 prohibiting this. I looked but cant find anything. Just looking for an update, if any.

2014 NEC added 250.121 exception that may permit what you are describing.
