It's basically the same (with a little wording change) as it's always been in both the NEC and the 2015 NFPA 99, it's back to Patient Care Vicinity

Could you be more specific on why this is important to you?

There was a 'small' discussion/debate on some emergency rooms that were not that big and they had a bed and sink in them. There were some receptacles not far from the bed and within 6ft of the sink. Some were saying that no, the gfci would not be required because of the bed location and others were saying yes it would, the bed was closer to the opposite wall and the receptacle was not close enough to be within the 'bed location'.

I thought a defined distance would clear this up.

And by the way patient care vicinity is defined as 6 foot beyond the bed location. Therefore, everything within is that is defined as the patient bed location.

That definition still doesn't tell you how wide the zone is for the patient bed location, unlike for a sink etc... Thanks for the help though.

Health Care Facilities Handbook 2005. I tend to agree with this resource in my understanding of this. I understand that commentaries can be embraced or discarded at ones own leisure
