Range hood future microwave code question

I don't have the book in front of me at the moment, but I wanted to know if there was a code requirement to have a 20amp dedicated circuit for a hood over the range in case it is swapped out for a combo microwave/vent hood. The microwave would definitely be pulling a lot of amps. this is not counting the additionally countertop circuits in the kitchen. This is a residential/dwelling unit, not commercial.

Not so fast here - take a look at what is required in 422.16(B)(4).

This section doesn't apply if you "hard wire" the range hood, but if you choose to supply it via cord and plug - you must meet certain requirements with the cord type and length and must have an individual branch circuit - but it doesn't specify it must be a 20 amp circuit.

This section was added (I think) in 2008 NEC but could have been 2011.

It was added in the 2005 NEC.

I have never seen a range hood with a cord and plg connection. That being said I usually run a circuit for the hood just in case a range hood/microwave was added

Been longer then I thought. I generally don't need to pay too close attention though as I usually am running a dedicated circuit (and I always run a 20 amp circuit in these instances even though it doesn't say you have to) because they are installing a microwave hood in maybe about 95% of the installs I do. Or if a higher end home it is often a really fancy range hood and is permanently wired.

I bet it is not compliant...
