    Outside of no stinking wire nuts and no EGC's, the logic of what is there could be the two wire cable is the supply voltage, goes to two switches on white and back on black/red, then feeds two separately switched loads.
    I live for today, I'm just a day behind.

    Found this today. I'm assuming it's a 120/240 UF feeding a detached garage.

    Not only are the two hots bare, but the neutral is connected to a separate NM cable. I'll investigate it more Monday.

    Lucky for us they left plenty of free wire to work with!

    Mostly out terminal boxes, receptacles, switches light fittings come with screw terminals.
