Why does it need to be "electrically" continuous??

I think it is OK. I don't see any harm in that. Unless it will create a safety concern.

I have often installed PVC conduit for GEC protection but have not connected it to the panel. Just brought it close to the panel, installed my ISBT then went into the panel with the EGC only. So the conduit was there just for protection.

I think somebody is missing the sarcasm in the OP. :)
I don't know if it's sarcasm or not, plastic needs to be bonded.

Of course it should be done with monofilament

This thread was moved. It is not consistent with the purpose of the previous forum. There was nothing relavent to a proposed formal action of the current NEC cycle.

Braided rope has a lower impedance for lightning surges. :)
And is easier to knot in larger sizes.

Nah, use cat5e. The twisted pairs cancel the impedance caused by the PVC bond. Also acts as a fuse so as to not damage the plumbing pipe. The plumbers install backflow preventers to keep lightning surges from travelling thru the entire water system. :p
