Wiring a switch for my compressor

Well I will be installing a compressor I just purchased in my basement and want to wire it to my garage with some type of light switch to turn it on and off (I will have my hard piped air supply there). After doing some calculations I think I will need 8 gauge wire with a 45amp breaker it is 40 ft from my panel (see the attached picture of the motor specs). Now the question is can I use a 30amp toggle switch from homedepot to turn it on and off or would this not manage the amp load through it? I am looking for suggestions on how to do this. I would possibly like a switch in the basement too if I want to use the air supply down there, but if wiring a 3 way switch is too hard, then I just will turn on in garage and walk down to use. Thanks.
