I do not beleive this is a code issue but could not find any reference to it:
On a current job the owner supplied a hardwired hairdryer instead of the specified cord-n-plug hair dryer. Is there any reason this cannot be just hardwired to the load side of the gfci device located ahjacent to the hairdryer. A little more information each bathroom in the facility has a gfci located at the sink each fed with a dedicated 20A circuit. Is there any reason you cannot do this? The only other option I can think of is to replace the breaker feeding the receptacle with a gfi brkr and making the connection in the box. The only problem with that is if the brkr trips now there in maintenance time involved with first finding the electrician, to get the closet open then locating the breaker and resetting it. What do you guy's (and ladies) think?

How does 210.23(A)(1) & (2) stack up against the wattage of the hair dryer?
