Taps and splices w/o junction boxes

I have heard of insulation displacement type tap and splice blocks made for NM in the modular home industry where these devices are listed for burial inside wall spaces.

1. Is there a reason we can't use these in traditional homes?
2. Where can I get some?

There were many times when I would have loved to have buried a splice or tap in a wall space without have to make the box accessible from the finished space.

Here is a tyco product I believe you are talking about. Tyco Site

There is an art. that allows these but I can't put my hands on it. I have seen them fail and I don't believe they are allowed to be inaccessible. Others think they can be buried.

334.40 is the article I think and this is a link to a document you might want to read

Can the NM Connector be concealed?

YES, although it can only be concealed in re-work applications per NEC
Article 334-40(B). It can not be concealed in new work.

What the?

I've always thought all splices have to be accessible. So you can use those tyco tap connectors in insulated walls and just bury it behind sheetrock?Thats scary!
