Default Wires behind shower

Can a switch or a GFI Protected outlet be installed behind a bathroom shower wall?

I realized that I should have posted this question in the NEC forum instead of here, so I re-posted it there. The question related to receptacles or switches installed on the back side of the shower wall. Responses are at: http://www.mikeholt.com/cgi-bin/code...;f=11;t=000053
Thank you for responding.
