AFCI Tester

Hello all, I don't post must but I do a lot of reading and I would like to say thank you to all of those that respond to questions.

I am a building official and I am always trying to keep up to date on the newest technology. That is the reason for this post.

I did a search on AFCI testers on this forum and from what I can determine there is not a TRUE AFCI tester! The search I did had an older post which started back in March of this year so I was wondering since it has been several months is there a true AFCI tester being manufactured now?

I did find some information from Ideal about a tester that indicates that their tester works to test the AFCI. However they do say to "trip the AFCI breaker manually before testing to verify the breaker works. Is this the only way to really verify that the AFCI is working properly OR does this tester actually test AFCI's

Here are some links to the information I have found.

Thanks in advance.

The only test device for proper funtion of an AFCI breaker recognized by the manufactures is the test button on the breaker itself. I have not heard of any other device recognized by the manufactures.

Anyone else have any comments?

Chris is right.

With that said, what is wrong with using the devices onboard test button since it is the correct way to test the unit per a manufactures instructions?

What about this one?
It is actually advertised on Mikes web site.

From the manufacturers spec sheet

Use of the AS1000 Arc Smart tester is not a substitute for sound wiring practices and standards. The AS1000 simulates specific ‘must trip’ conditions and does not simulate all possible arcing conditions. Always follow manufacturer’s instructions and local codes for installation of AFCI breakers and branch circuits. No warranties specific or implied are extended to the installers or manufacturers of any equipment of the branch circuits tested by the AS1000.
