Loose connectionSomebody land the MWBC's wrong? Loose terminal?
Curious ,just how long would a number 12 carry lets sat 40 amps before it starts to melt ?
For the copper - an exceptionaly long time, depending the insulation type the insulation may last under a week to a decade or more.... In free air - - not in direct sunlight - who knows how long.Curious ,just how long would a number 12 carry lets sat 40 amps before it starts to melt ?
I don't know how hot 40 amps will make #12, but Table 1 in this document says a little over 399 amps will cause it to melt in 5 seconds.Curious ,just how long would a number 12 carry lets sat 40 amps before it starts to melt ?

Ooooooo Nice tip - pun intended.I have used #12 as a replacement for the tip on my Weller soldering gun. It doesn't last as long as a real tip, but it sure melts solder.
