Code require to install horn/strobe at 6'-8" AFF.
If ceiling height in the basement of apartment building is lower than 6'-8", can these devices be installed lower?

Yes, they can be lower. As far as I know the 6'8" (or 7' to the top) is an ADA driven requirement.

NFPA 72, Section 6-4.4 also states that wall mounted apliances shall have their bottoms at heights above the finished floor of not less than 80 inches and no greatyer than 96 inches. Ceiling mounted appliances are covered by a table describing room size and candela output.
80"-96" AFF, measured to the bottom of the device, for wall mount applications.

Mzeleny, there you have it, you can't have a "horn strobe" in this basement or any crawl space, so if it is required, all that can be done is to condemn the building.![]()

I typically specify these devices to be mounted 80"AFF or 6" below ceiling height, which ever is less.
