Any thoughts?

I don't see batteries as being excluded from the NEC.

A battery has open terminals that need to be insulated.

Probably need a way to disconnect cables without sparking.

If a battery package was wired outside of the hazardous area with lengths of extra-hard usage flexible cord to a pair of XP switches with more extra-hard usage flexible cord on the opposite side of the switch. With switches open I could then bring the battery into the C1D2 room land the wires, close the switches.

Hmmm.... What to do the the 501.10(B)(5) required grounding conductor...

What is the second sentence of 501.25 saying about insulated exposed parts?

Perhaps an open ended post.

Can I use lead acid batteries in C1D2? What are the restrictions, and some methods to wire?

Thanks,
Bill

There is no general prohibition against installing storage batteries in Class I, Division 2. Terminals may need attention per 501.25. Associated equipment, such as chargers, may also need attention. Wiring methods must be consistent with Section 501.10(B).
