I have a client who wants me to mount a 120/208 Dist panel above a 75kVA transformer. The panel is 6 1/2" deep, the transformer is 20" deep. Does this violate the clear working space rule?

Personally I think it does, but my client insists that it does not. The cleint has a break room. he is converting into a new electrical equipment room. He is trying to cram in as much as possible, so he maintains that the clear working space does not apply to a transformer/distribution panel combination.

yep.....violation indeed....the transformer would extend well beyond the panel

Opps...here you go

(3) Height of Working Space. The work space shall be
clear and extend from the grade, floor, or platform to the
height required by 110.26(E). Within the height requirements
of this section, other equipment that is associated
with the electrical installation and is located above or below
the electrical equipment shall be permitted to extend
not more than 150 mm (6 in.) beyond the front of the
electrical equipment.

Chris,

You could build a strut rack flush with the front of the transf. , instead of

mounting the panel to the wall. It would be wasted space anyway.
