A client has a recessed MLV can that stopped working. I have 12VAC at the socket, bulb is good and doesn't work. I tried changing the socket and the lamp and still doesn't work. Any ideas?

Bad socket? Bad thermal? Bad trans? Anyone of these three maybe failing only when the load is applied. Although it may test 12v.

What voltage is the bulb. If there is 12v and the bulb is a good bulb with a new socket then I don't see how it can't work. If the thermal protector were bad you wouldn't have 12V at the socket.

Are you sure it is a 12V bulb???? I have seen mr 16 bulbs that are 24V and 120V
