I have a main lug panelboard P1 which subfeeds a panelboard P2 via a 3pole breaker. Will the code allow a 3 pole circuit from P2 to a 30kva dry type transformer? Thanks

The essential rules related to panelboards are,
  • It has to be rated to handle the calculated load that it will supply,
  • It has to be protected against overcurrent (i.e., a current in excess of its own rating),
  • Its feeder has to have sufficient ampacity for the calculate load that it will supply, and
  • Its feeder has to be protected against overcurrent (i.e., a current in excess of its ampacity).
There is no rule that limits the number of sub-sub-sub-etc-panels you can install.
