Good Day!

What is the best alternative to heat detectors in basement parking? We have a recent project in where the beam depth is 700mm and spaced 3500mm center to center???

thanks,
AAEB

If using the National Fire Alarm Code NFPA 72, each pocket would need to be treated as a separate space if using heat detectors. So probably one heat detector in each pocket depending on ceiling height.

Is there a sprinkler system? If so, then you may not need heat detection.

It's possible they go by a different code in your country.

If the beam depth is more than 0.1 of the floor to ceiling height, AND the beam spacing is more than 0.4 of the floor to ceiling height, then a detector is required in the pocket. Assuming of course that you are using NFPA 72, 2007 or later.

steve66's suggestion regarding Protectowire or other linear detection product is good. And they are listed for fire alarm.
