Arc Fault Breakers

Looked at condo's someone wired wrong, the smoke detectors are on the laundry/hall light circuit. The question is can that circuit be arc faulted with the bedrooms, so the smoke detectors are arc faulted? The G/C does not want to cut rock so that is out. This job is permitted and other thing's are wrong but this the worst of it.

Certainly, it can be. Under the '08, everything gets arc faulted anyhow. There is no prohibition against arc faulting more than just the bedroom stuff in earlier editions.

The permit is under 2005 code. That is where i am not sure.
No problem. The '05 only required the bedroom stuff to be arc-faulted, but you can certainly arc fault the whole place under the '05 if you want to.

Your situation is a no-brainer, to me. I'd pop in another arc-fault breaker for whatever circuit the smokes were mistakenly fed off of and move on to the next job.
