Some questions on commercial fire alarm system monitoring:
Most fire alarm panels have a DACT that can transmit in a variety of formats?
Including Simplex?
Do most monitoring companies monitor a variety of formats?
Can a typical receiver (at the monitoring company) monitor more than one format?
Simplex monitoring services only monitors simplex fire alarm panels (and other simplex equipment)?

Alarm formats

Most fire alarm panels are capable of different communicator formats. Older fire alarm DACT dialers used 4x2 format. Newer fire panels will use Modem 2 format or contact id. The fire panel can send many more signals with this type of format. Central station receivers are capable of receiving multiple formats including the older 4x2 formats.

If its a different type panel than they are used to monitoring or dont have one then you send over a Dialer Report that shows what the signals mean when they receive them

Alarm Monitoring

your question is a good one, and fairly straight forward.

Yes, most alarm receivers that monitoring companies use will accept several formats. The preferred formats are the faster modem type like, Contact ID or SIA. However the Internet based communicators now being used by most companies are priority and if you have a specific brand, like Honeywell, Silent knight etc you need a specific receiver for them. In the future we will see all brands use similar formats here also but for now they are brand specific.
