Water pump with a stinger

will the pump still work on a 120/240 3phase delta system with no stinger?

Need some clarification. There is no such thing as a 240/120V delta system without a high leg, so what is your reason for asking?

Since the motor is 3 phase and 240 volts the 120 and 208 volt components of the system are irrelevant.

You don't have a high leg or stinger with a 120/208 service. It would have to be a 240/120V Delta to have a high leg/stinger.

That's impossible.

I doubt the motor is 120/240. A 240V three phase motor will likely run on 208V wye system if that is what you are asking about.

Usually a 3-phase motor will operate fine on a range of voltage from 208 to 240. Your wye service is 208 and your delta is 240 so usually the motor will work. Do you have any idea what the name plate on the motor says?

Yes but the higher voltage will saturate the windings, the result being more current draw, per NEMA. A motor that is designed to run on a 120/208 volt system will have a name plate rating of 200 Volts. NEMA motors are designed with a +/- 10% voltage tolerance. 10% of 240 is 24 volts, 240-24 = 216 volts.

While not a good idea, it will not go "poof" when the disconnect is turned on. It will run for some time before it fails from over voltage.

Certainly it will work but you will experience shorter motor life due to the higher voltage past the 10% maximum. Can you measure the amps and what are the nameplate amps?
What is the nameplate rated voltage, 200?

Absolutely. The 208v "stinger" has nothing to do with the motor; that's a characteristic of the supply. It is only a 240v, 3ph load.

A high-leg delta supply is a 120/240v 1ph supply superimposed on a regular delta 3ph supply; it has the characteristics of both.

To a 3ph-only load, the line-to-neutral voltages are irrelevant. As long as the load is rated for the delta voltage, it will work fine.
