Is it legal to connect the neutral to the yoke of the receptacle where I don't have a ground in the box? Receptacle says "UL" so I'd imagine its legal to do so?

This was the case long time ago. If the circuit does not have the EGC in the box then it is OK. But if it does then I would use the four prong receptacle and cord end.

No , that receptacle is not designed to be terminated as you suggested.

So how do I ground the yoke if I don't have a ground in the box?

My point is: Without the strap, the yoke cannot be grounded. When the yoke isn't grounded, a metal cover can't be grounded. You then have exposed, non-current-carrying parts that aren't grounded.

Hence why I ask. Green neutral, strap... I want to know if UL cares. Because if they do that UL listing would not be valid.

I am sure UL cares. All we know that UL stamp on the device could be home made.

Makes sense.

So I want to ask- is this receptacle actually UL listed?
