is the image I attached a violation. If so what code? I’ve been told it is but I want to know where.

Well it won’t let me post it but it’s an mc zip tied to an mc strap with a mc under it.

Clearly not compliant.

The person telling you it's a violation should be able to identify it.

It sounds wonky but not illegal.

You are looking for section 330.30 in the NEC and I don't think there is a consensus on AHJs allowing Zip ties as a mean of securing or supporting.

I am also going to assume here that the MC strap is listed to hold one MC cable and by supported 2 cables it is no longer suitable for it's use?

The picture would help if you could reduce the file size. You can try taking a screen shot of the photo with snipping tool on windows or on your phone to reduce the file size of the image.

Not sure of the manufacturers specs.

I don't see an issue. The cable ties are permitted to secure the cable so what's the problem?
I remember being told that’s not allowed during my first weeks when I started in the trade. It’s one of those things I never questioned and moved on.

It'd need to be an s21 zip tie and it'd need to not be against the manufacturers instructions for the mc strap. If the stap says "for supporting 1 mc cable" then I'd say it might be non compliant but again real world it's not going anywhere.

So since the product code says "The mechanical strength of these products is investigated with consideration given to the intended installation." I don't think they envisioned that as the intended installation.

I am guessing they get into more specific details to the strength and strap styling in the testing standard UL2239.

But it is one of those things where it probably doesn't matter

Yeah I think I agree. It also just looks like dog water.

I mean how could it be for more than one now that I’m thinking about it. unless they design it to also be zip tied to.
