I am currently building a motor starter for an industrial fan application. The fan is 480V, but the voltage is stepped down to 120V for the control circuit. The on/off button assembly is mounted to the door of the enclosure (120V supply).
The enclosure that I bought (Wiegmann) is quite small, and no grounding studs were provided to ground the door. Do I need to ground the door? It seems to me that many starters I have seen have not bonded the door to the main enclosure. I can measure continuity between the ground on the plug and the buttons on the door, however, I am unsure if this is sufficient.
Thanks

UL 508 industrial control panels would require the door to be bonded (grounded is a vague term), typically a 12 AWG, depending on the OCPD of the control ckt.
did you look at Art 409?
