I'm looking for ideas on paperwork. What do you guys do? I come home, hand it over to the wife and inputs in QB. I then create a file folder for each customer. Way to much time. I thinking of doing away with the paper part, since the info gets entered into QB anyway.

If you do that, make sure that you have an offsitebackup of your QB data made frequently.
That could be a cloud backup if you trust the cloud resource, or one or more backup hard drives, DVD/CDs or flash drives in your truck, at a friend's house, in a storage locker, etc.
Do not trust either a DVD/CD or a flash drive unless you test it regularly.

I don't know what QB can do as far as storing scanned data as it relates to an individual customer. Our software allows us to create a folder for customers where we can store all the scanned paper work from written work requests to copies of payment checks. It is a cloud based software that backs up continually.

invoices 2 go, on an iphone,
with their cloud sync with my computer.

that makes the quote, invoice, and followup
able to be done off my phone on the fly.
now i have something to do when the 405
backs up....

for receipts and documents, i use neatworks,
with their cloud that syncs to my desktop.

for job documentation, i use iphone camera
that syncs to my desktop. i can grab all the
paperwork on a job and pull it into a pdf if
i need backup.

for material notes, i use reminders on iphone.
i make a folder for each job, and add stuff there.
when i get the stuff, i check off the items.
i don't delete the folder. i can go back and
see everything i've noted on the job, and when
it got checked off.

when time comes for quarterly taxes, i can pull up
my gross receipts on invoices to go, my deductions
on neatworks, see how much my quarterlies have been
so far, and send in enough to cover my tax liability to
that point in time.

with an employee, there will be additional accounting you
have to deal with, that i don't, but i think there are modules
in invoices to go to streamline that. i'm gonna have to take
a look at that... i'm gonna have to have some help, work
is getting seriously busy. this three day weekend coming up
is gonna be the last 3 days off for the next year, it looks like.

so all of my data is in three places.. my hard drive, my onsite
backup network drive, and a cloud account.
