Color coded wire

On larger projects is all wire usually ordered color coded?
In my experience, no.

Infinity and iwire have posted several pictures of "larger" wire projects with color coded wires... but I have never seen any like those up close and in person.

IMO it depends on the particulars of the project. On our current building we're wiring about 200 college dorms that are electrically identical. This made a color coded system very useful since no conductor identification was required in the field. We used the Southwire SIM-pull barrel system. Made for pulling repetitive home runs idiot proof. Only problem we had was that if the barrels got wet they fell apart. :eek:hmy:

At least 3 of my primary supply houses stock the most common sizes THHN/THWN through 600 in 9 colors. It is becoming pretty common to see most project with colored feeders instead of phase tape.
