Protective Cover Boxes For Grounding System

Has anyone ever used these? What is it for?

I was reviewing a submittal for the grounding and bonding system, included was protective cover boxes shown here: http://www.lyncole.com/p.coverbox.asp
Thus the earlier question but upon further reading saw that it was to cover the grounding electrode, I have never seen this, it was new to me.

On a cellular site we did the grounding and power wiring for, two of the rods were terminated inside what were called 'test wells', and looked like those.

Cool, I used to work around a bunch of those a couple years ago doing some testing with some of the support engineers. Do you recall how much lbs those were rated for, the one in the submittal I got is rated for light traffic (9 lbs)

No, I wasn';t involved in spec'ing or supplying special equipment.

We used vitrified clay tiles for ground rod test wells for years but recently switched to Quazite boxes because they are much more durable. This looks like a product that would be more impact resistant than clay tiles and cheaper than name brand Quazite boxes.

Around our communication towers they just use the plastic water meter boxes for the test/inspection points for the rods. The boxes are inside the fenced in area away from vehicle traffic.

We use those quite a bit for ground rods at generator pads or backboards for ag pumps. They are available in the same ratings as any other handhole, from incidental traffic to an H-20 full traffic rating. We usually see them called out as a G5 Christy box which is typically used for irrigation valves.
