Who do you buy from?

Just wondering... for major equipment do you guys normally go to a distributor, a manufacturer's rep or the manufacturers themselves for major equipment?

For "major" buys I go right to the manufactures rep, which for gear means you are going right to the manufacture as they actually work for them. With lighting I go to the reps as well, but they don't actually work for the mfgs.

Can you define what you mean by "major equipment"?

Biggest thing I buy is panels/breakers. I go to supply houses that carry the brands I need. Go to big box stores in a pinch.

MY definition of "major" would be 100K - 300K worth of gear and a similar range for fixtures. I should add that most of our work is deisgn/build. On a bid project just hand the wholesale house the plans and let them figure it out.
