I replaced a motor and reversing switch for a customer on his lathe. I supplied the switch he supplied the motor. The motor reverses so I figured everything was fine. He called saying the machine now has no torgue. It is 1ph 240 volts. The new motor is 1.5 hp he swears the old motor was 5 hp. I do not have any info on the old motor. Could this be a problem with my wiring or did he order wrong motor? Thanks

Ask the lathe manuf what size motor it had, or compare similar lathes as to motor size off the Web.
With 1.5 vs. 5 you're not looking for subtle differences.

Put the ball in the customers court. Ask him to verify the motor HP and RPM with the manufacturer so you're not spending a bunch of time chasing your tail when he was the one who picked the new motor size. I personally don't like being the middleman...
