    Not in NC
They say I shot a man named Gray and took his wife to Italy
She inherited a million bucks and when she died it came to me
    I can't help it if I'm lucky

It varies a lot by where you take the test. Our city does not even let you use your own code book. We provide one for the test.

Electrical Inspector's exams in New Jersey allow tabs and highlighting.

As Dennis says, in NC you can't can't bring anything into the exam room, they furnish code book, calculator, scratch paper, and pencil which all get left with them.

Allowed in Florida, but no annotations or notes are allowed.

I know what I don't know, and I know where to go to find it!

Have taken 6-7 tests, as everyone says, it varies by state. Most will let you, MT, NM, TX, ID, UT. Some don't CA, CO. None I have taken allow notes or writing of any kind. Permanent tabs and highlighting are allowed with the states that permit it.

In Michigan NFPA tabs are allowed but no marks or highlighting can be done in the book.
