I’m researching the following question: why is there a different notation being used for apparent current with complex conjugate in industry and university:
Industry notation: S=U*I
University notation: S=UI*
The * represents the complex conjugate
I know the university uses this notation for didactic purposes, but I can’t figure out:
It seems to me that the notation used at the university is somewhat easier than the industry standard.

- If there’s an actual difference?
- If so, what is?
- Why would they use a different notation at university?
