MOTORS AND MOTOR STARTER AMP RATING

Hello all,

I'm currently designing a fuel station and putting my panel schedules together. My turbine pumps for each tank and compartment are (208 3phase) 5hp motors. Which according to NEC should be around 17.5A which manufacturer agrees. The specific Magnetic starter for 3-phase control relay is showing "Relay coil Amp consumption when pump is operating: 80 Amps."

How can i have a relay that accepts 3-5HP motors that draws 4 x more amps than the motor itself will draw?
Only one motor per starter. Mind blown..

I have dealt with motors up to several MW - 80A in a relay coil? No way.

In my opinion if it is NEMA 0 SIZE then coil inrush current is 0.5 A and sealed 80 mA[0.08 A):lol:
