Load Calculations - Demand Factors for different building types

Are dwelling units (apt. buildings etc.) the only types of occupancies you apply demand factors to?


Other bldg. types (e.g., warehouses) you size the service for the full connected load?


Or do I have this misunderstood?

Well there are demand tables 220.42 and .44 for lighting and non dwelling receptacles. So there are demand factors for other places

In addition to what Dennis mentioned, 220.56 has demand factors for kitchen equipment in other than dwellings, in the optional calculations 220.86 has demand factors for schools, and 220.102(B) has demand factors for farm loads. There may be some others, but I think this mostly covers what is in art 220.

Welders get reductions based on "duty cycle". Not exactly the same thing as demand factors previously mentioned, but certainly lessens ampacity needed compared to if you went with 100% of nameplates.

X-ray equipment allows lesser ampacity than "full load" because of the short duration that is typical in operation. Again not exactly same thing as demand factors typical in art 220, but a case where conductors are allowed to be reduced because of typical load characteristics.
