Ah... a small, dedicated plc with a safety rating like SIL? I'm not familiar with these. Are these primarily European/

Many North American manufacturers now offer them, however they were 'born' in the European safety environment.

I was referring to a safety relay vs. a safety plc. They both exist but the safety relay came first. The safety relay is all hardware. Usually made up of several sets of "positively guided contacts" with internal interlocking.

There is endless reading material available on the net for both safety relays and plcs. They can describe it much better than my memory can drudge up.
