let me be a little more specific:

I have the definition of service factor
"Service Factor is defined as the permissible amount of overload a motor can handle within defined temperature limits without overheating."

BUT
what exactly does the #'s mean
1.0 SF
1.15 SF
1.25 SF

From a code standpoint, the actual purpose of the factor or what it means has no signifigance. It's simply used as a reference point when applying the rules found in Section 430.32(A) through (E).

In simplest terms, a 1HP motor with a 1.15 SF can operate at 1.15HP without damaging the motor.
