    Lightning Protection

If you have a lightning protection system with a ground loop, I know you are required to have a downcomer every 100ft. But my question is since you have the loop, does the downcomer still have to terminate in a ground rod?

    Thanks

No there is no requirement to do that. However from a design POV you do not want to connect the down conductors to the ring. You want to drive a rod and connect to the down conductor.

The only place want to bond the two together is at the service entrance.

      What about exhibit 250.31?

I see, thanks guys, it seems that the ground ring and well are connected indirectly, I've seen some designs where the downcomer crosses the ring and terminates in a ground well..
