I have a PV system that is being tied into the load side of the utility via a 400A breaker on a main panelboard. The bus rating of the panelboard complies with 705.12(D)(2).

I'm hoping that someone can explain the requirements for ground fault protection at the tie-in point. The main panel where the PV tie-in breaker is located will have ground fault protection incorporated in the main 800A breaker. The 400A PV tie-in breaker however currenly is slated to be a thermal-magnetic breaker and does not have ground fault sensing.

Can some please explain the requirements of 705.12(D)(3) and explain weather or not my 400A tie-in breaker needs to have ground fault sensing if this breaker is on the load side of the 800A main breaker with ground fault protection. The 400A tie-in breaker will be rated for reverse feed per 705.12(D)(5)
