517.17 requires two levels of ground fault protection. One on the main and a second on down stream feeders. My contention is that coordination with electronic trip CBs can achieve
more precise coordination than ground fault relaying. This meets the "or equivalent protective equipment" statement in the article.
Looking for some input. Thanks. :D

517.17 give you the option of "other equivalent protective equipment". I agree with your statement regarding electronic trip CBs and I think they are at least equivalent to ground fault protection

Would this meet the definition of "other equivalent protective equipment"? The problem is whether this down stream equipment can meet the definition of "Ground-Fault Protection of Equipment" per article 100 and required in 230.95.
