Have a job(new residential construction), foundation, poured walls, and poured basement floor have no re-bar at all.With that being said, would grounding to the underground water pipe and a driven 8' rod meet the requirements? Had another contractor tell me that in addition to the underground water pipe he was required to drive (3) 8' rods to achieve the 20' figure in 250.52(A)(3). Thanks.

So the U/G water pipe and a driven 8' rod (25ohms or less res) is all that is required to satisfy the code?

Thanks, seems as though contractors around here think that if no rebar is present in the foundation they have to "create" the requirement of 250.52(A)(3) by installing at least 20' of bar or 20' of Cu wire not smaller than #4.Appears that you only have to include this in the system if it's been installed in the concrete. Thanks.
