I had my first experience running pvc with this new job and I was surprised at how sharp its edges can be. Also, it seems to be "tackier" on pulls than EMT or other metal pipe

Wire lube will help with that, but I personally hate using it - so gooey and slimy (I suppose that's the purpose though...).

Instead, I like using talc as a pulling aid. Baby powder is an easy-to-find source, plus you end up smelling all fresh and clean too! Talc REALLY helps if you're pulling cable that's "sticky;" cables with a neoprene / rubber-like jacket will glide through pipe once coated with baby powder.
