sorry, I should have specified, its just for small branch circuits #10 and smaller.


Solid is a little easier for some people to splice and terminate ( especially with switches and receptacles). So maybe they have experienced problems with stranded in the past.

I know solid wire is preferred for fire alarm systems. Why? I don’t know. Solid wire sucks. Stranded is much easier to tuck into boxes. Some government agencies spec solid wire. Had a job years ago at a navy base where solid wire was specified. Pulling 10 solid sucks.

We still see this specified on some commercial jobs. IMO it's written by someone who has zero experience pulling solid #10's in a raceway. We only pull stranded and never have a problem due to it not being a solid conductor. I have yet to hear a valid reason to use solid #10 and IMO it's just plain dumb.
