Working on a highrise project where normally a 700 and 701 generator would have been required per modern Building Code (Sections 2702.2.11 which directs the reader to 403.4.8).
https://codes.iccsafe.org/content/IB...-27-electrical
https://codes.iccsafe.org/content/IB...upancy-and-use

When the building was built, that code section was not there and there is no existing generator.

The landlord wants to add a 702 generator.

Generally what initiates the requirement to comply with a new code? If they add a 702 generator, and modify some portion of the electrical system, what might implicate compliance of 2702.2.11 of the Building Code. Is it renovation / alteration of the electrical system of more than a certain percentage of value of the installed system?

The jurisdiction has no adopted renovation code.

Please don't reply to ask the AHJ. I am trying to do research before we get to that point.

Now you know I want to say just ask the ....
My first question is what is the gen going to power ? If it is anything that would require other than OPTIONAL in normal design, I would say the owner is out of luck.
If it is going to serve say CELL tower equipment or a tenant Computer Room, then you should be fine.
Downside with this, assuming you have a fire pump, is the fire marshal will not allow anyone in the building until normal power comes back without a continuous fire watch.
