We are installing a 200A meter socket directly on top of an existing 200A disconnect. I plan on using a 3” galv close nipple to run the wires through. If the top of the disconnect has a hub knockout on top of it, is a hub required for the nipple to thread into? I wanted to have the meter socket almost directly on top of the disconnect so it will be within PoCo’s height requirements... I know 2-3” isn’t gonna make or break this but I just want to know if using a hub is REQUIRED by NEC for this application.
Thank you

PS the meter socket will be fastened to the building with strut. It will not be “resting” on the disconnect in any way

Thank you. I guess I figured the meter would be so close to the disconnect it wouldn’t matter but now I see your point.

You need something beyond a standard locknut. If there are no concentric or eccentric KO's you can use a single sealing locknut as electrofelon suggested with a close nipple.
