We are running a circuit in a class 1 Div 1 location. Seal offs are in place at all switches and as it emerges from grade. If we install a tee in line of the circuit to feed two different devices does the tee need to be Explosionproof or is it considered nonincendive field wiring?

Nonincendive field wiring is only applicable to C1D2 locations.

For C1D1 locations, all boxes and fittings are to be so approved. The term "approved" meaning acceptable to the AHJ makes the requirement a bit ambiguous, but I have always assumed XP-type to be required.

Although, We have class 1 division 1 in the immediate area of the bulk transfer station of the propoane the location of the tee is in the class 1 division 2 area. Please advise in regards to the tee. All is installed with ridgid steel.

Thanks Dominic

Non-XP tees in C1D2 are permitted.
