Technical Question Regarding Disconnect Height... HELP!! solve a disagreement.

Ok so here is the disagreement.

Does a disconnect have a certan moutning height? Is it 6' 7" to the center of the habndle, or can you mount it at whatever height you choose?

If you have the 2011 Handbook there is a great illustration on page 18(exhibit 100.1).
As for your question, the 6'7" rule is maximum height, but then there are exceptions to that.

Just remember- a disconnect is not just another 'switch.'

I mount them well above 6'7" all the time. I mount them in places you can't reach without a ladder, or moving ceiling tiles, or opening a cabinet. I've hung them sideways and from their backs.

It all relates to just what purpose th disconnect serves. If you're serving the heat pump that's installed above the ceiling grid, it would be silly to hang the disconnect in the hallway, no matter how 'accessible' it would be in the hallay. No, you want it placed where it is convenient to whoever is going to need it. If that 'someone' is a guy servicing the equipment, putit where HE can reach it.
