Did the code revised ..if using 12/2 mc for switches the white cable shouldnt be use or 2 phase wire need to be used rather than the white...just curious

NEC 404.2(C) might have a bearing on your question.
With a whole handful of exceptions, there is a requirement that a grounded conductor be present at a switch location. That requirement has led to the use of 12/3 MC for switch legs in certain situations.
As jumper noted, a re-identified white conductor can still be used as an ungrounded conductor but in some cases you need a grounded conductor present.
