outlet in sheetrock encapsulated column

hello

will someone please tell me whether or not its code compliant to install an outlet in a sheetrock column which is encapsulating a steel column? its in a church sanctuary thanks the sheetrock is three layers thick thank you for the great help

I've done it but the columns were spray coated before and the print showed them going there; so stamped by engineers. Three layers of rock sounds like fire protection, look at fire barrier wraps. Not sure what 3 layers of 5/8 or 1/2, or 1" gives in hours.

Since it's surround a column and there are 3 layers than as David stated you'll need to be conscious of the fire rating of the column. Metal boxes generally have a 2 hour fire rating.
