Re: Plastic Staples vs. Metal Staples

I thought he meant "insulated", like without the warning imprinted on the handle that says, "Hey, these aren't insulated!"

Totally uninsulated? Wild! :D

Sam, Sam, Sam, Bless your little heart too. ;)

Here are my linemans, I haven't had a insulated pair since 80.

I immediately peel the factory insulation (that is really not insulation per the manufacturers CYA information, unless you buy the 1000v stuff) off when I buy a pair.

Roger,

it appears that you've added a hole for stripping #14 thhn.

I've been thinking of adding one to mine.

Was it difficult to do??

:D

Roger, Roger, Roger,

Bless both our little hearts. :D

See, you have to take the non-insulation off yourself.

Sorry to burst your bubble Allen, but that wasn't "an oops I forgot to turn off the breaker" mistake.

I didn't think it was, don't look like an arc hole to me. Not that I know what one would look like.

Doesn't look like a nail either.

Allen ,you know that me and you are the only 2 electricians that admit to working anything hot. ;) As for insulated i use journeyman 2000 but they do not claim insulation .Have used them add insulation handles but they are just not worth the work to put them on.Roger, just why would you remove the insulation ? Even if you dont need for insulation they feel better in the hands.

For the record , Jim, you're the only ones who admit to working live unnecessarily. :D

I couldn't see working without my J-Man 2000 handles. They are comfy and durable.

Yeah, why go bare, Rog? :D

Re: Plastic Staples vs. Metal Staples

It's what you get used to. I worked with an old timer that used bare handles and so when my insulators (The Heat and install type) got cracked one day, I removed them and just never went back, they just don't feel right.

This old timer said he did it because it kept him honest as far as considering working something hot when he was in a precarious situation such as in between metal piping or up in a grid ceiling.

He said knowing you will get shocked is much more of a deterrent than thinking you won't :)

OSHA permits troubleshooting energized circuts, but, among other things, you must have the proper PPE.

See the OSHA site for details.
