(A) Above Roofs.

Exception No. 2:
Where the voltage between conductors does not exceed 300, and the roof has a slope of 100 mm in 300 mm (4 in. in 12 in.) 1 in 3 or greater steeper, a reduction in clearance to 900 mm (3 ft) shall be permitted.


Substantiation

Slope is dimensionless, it is just a ratio.

There are a lot more code users who will understand 4" in 12" than will understand a 1 in 3 slope. I know it is the same, but you only hear roof slopes being talked about in the terms of "x in 12".
